Saint Laurent Spring 2016: Totally cool, brah.
by Laetitia Wong
Surprise, surprise. The Saint Laurent Spring 2016 collection is out, and though quirky and controversial, we’re loving it. Yep, it took us by shock the same it took the fashion community by storm.
The collection is titled Surf Sound, as a ‘Tribute to Contemporary Californian Surf Music Culture’. Interesting, so now we’re back to the 90’s are we? We wonder when Nick Carter’s iconic middle part will be making it’s comeback. We miss Nick! Oh, that soulful voice. Ahem, moving on.
Basically, the collection was a combination of cool surfer vibes and reminiscent of the Cali-surf sun, complete with bobble hats and bright pink collars. Hey, we’re just relieved there weren’t any flip-flops featured. One word jumps right out at us: Young.
The collection was… young, akin to surfer tassel chic meets rock and roll. Something that the Y generation of today’s millennium would don as they run off into the sunset with their surfboards (all of course, in a very very chic music video, probably something directed by Vilanoise TV, very vintage-y) It’s almost as if the team behind the collection was trying to rediscovered a somewhat tattered version of Laurent’s surfer boy days (if he even had any, God rest his soul.)
Here are some snapshots from the runway, check them out and let us know what you think! Yay or nay?
