Our fave upcoming movies to look out for (and why!)
by Laetitia Wong
Yes, we know that Mondays generally suck for everyone. But with the upcoming movies that the month of June has planned for us – We’re already getting jittery in our seats! Check out the trailers down below for our top 3 most highly anticipated movies!
1. Fantastic 4
Hmm, Miles Teller (aka, the mean backstabbing bully in Divergent) as Mr Fantastic… Isn’t he a little too young for this? I mean, given that Ioan Gruffudd played the original stretchy man in the 2005 (but rather poorly received) version of the film? Not to mention Kate Mara’s got some pretty big shoes to fill if she’s going to be taking the place of the gorgeously pouty Sue Storm (cough bring Jessica Alba back). Also, Michael B. Jordan as the human torch – My my, will this be exciting.
But wait a minute, weren’t Jordan and Teller in the same douche-y movie with Zac Efron? What’s it called again… That Awkward Moment? (A hilarious watch for those seeking a good laugh)
2. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Does Tom Cruise ever age?! With this 5th instalment of the Mission Impossible series, the first having been released in 1996 (that’s a whopping 19 years ago, when the stud was only 34). Did you check out his hair then? Total heartthrob.
Well, this one’s a definite watch. I mean, if we’ve already come so far, what’s another 20 bucks to the movie industry to keep up with all the hype? Especially when it’s Tom Swoonworthy Cruise.
3. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
Well, the first instalment came out last year, and ended on a cliffhanger. Eh, we’re not too good with cliffhangers. What with ‘W.C.K.D’ (pronounced: wicked) having tricked the youngsters into thinking they were the victims of an assassination, we’re talking unethical experimentation here guys! And you’re not the least bit interested? Nah, impossible.
Tune in, even if it’s not for the action, do it for Dylan o’Brien. That jawline is certainly worth the 2-hour wait.
4. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
First Daredevil and now Batman? Didn’t know Ben Affeck could jump ship like that! Given that he was a dismal Daredevil, we’re crossing our fingers and toes that he’ll be doing a better job in this instalment of Batman v Superman, lest letting down his dark knight predecessors such as: Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Adam West… God this list is long.
At least they’re keeping our favourite Henry Cavill in his former role of Superman. Whew, consistency is key here folks. Unless you gained a bunch of weight like Val Kilmer.
Do we really need to sell you on this one? Seriously. It’s the Minions, the prequel to the first two Despicable Me films, starring these tiny dumpy yellow tic-tac shaped (this is an actual thing by the way, minion tic tacks!) peanuts of love in their quest to serve the greatest super villain of all time.
Their cuddly made-up minion language aside, we get to meet Scarlett Overkill (aka the delightful Sandra Bullock) in her second voice-over role since The Prince of Egypt (1998) – And as a baddie no less! WATCH THIS. You won’t regret it.
